Jaime you inspired me to go to the old cemetery on Orilla Road that has been there since the 1880s. Everything else around it has changed and recently the land next to it cleared. Not sure what they are going to build here and it kind of creeps me out. However, this little place remains sacred and no man can develop it.
Old gravestones have a draw for us all. It shows us what 100 years does to stone. How most graves are never visited and the markers become weathered with time. However, I did see the most lovely new marker of Mother Mary in the form of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It inspires one to live your best every day. Treat each other with kindness and be thankful for the little gifts of nature we receive. We just have to look up and behold them.
What town/city is this place located? That Celtic cross is beautiful!
Hi it is near Seattle. Close to the airport in Seatac. Lovely little catholic cemetery. R
Oh nice! This looks like a beautiful graveyard Robin. One thing that strikes me as special as in most all of the old graveyards is the way the earth seems to swallow the forgotten ones up as if cradling them in her loving embrace. They look rather settled in like a comfy worn old pair of leather shoes. That Celtic cross is quite beautiful, it’s shear size is impressive.
I love the way the moss grows on the stone of the young girls grave and on the one that simply says Father. And as much as I love color, I am not so crazy about the Virgin de Guadalupe in her vividly colored stone. But to each their own, that is what makes life so interesting. My grandmother always said what a boring world this would be if we were all alike.
I’m so glad you took the challenge and revisited this old graveyard to share its beauty with us. What a serene and restful place. But where are the crows? LOL you are the Crow Lady, don’t they know that?!
Lovely post!
Oh so sad the crows were a no show. R
